THEY LIVED WITH THEIR SON JOHN, AT 8 PRINCES STREET, MASON STREET, HULL. HE WAS EMPLOYED AS A LIMESTER AND DECORATOR. HE SERVED IN THE NAVY AND WAS LOST SEA, ON 19/02/1917, AGED 38. COMMEMORATED ON THE TOWER HILL MEMORIAL, LONDON, UK
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON HULL CITY ENGINEERS MEMORIAL, VICTORIA HOUSE, PARK STREET, HULL. HIS MOTHER DIED IN 1919.
The steam Trawler, Halcyon, was built by Cochrane & Cooper, Ltd., Beverley in 1898 and owned at the time of her loss by J. Leyman Jr. was a British trawler of 190 tons.
On February 19th, 1917, Halcyon was sunk by a mine from the German submarine U-71 (Hugo Schmidt), off Butt of Lewis. 11 persons were lost.
