ENLISTED HULL CITY HALL ON 11/12/15 AGED 34. JOINED THE 15TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY ON 10/06/1916 (21 ST DIVISION, 64TH BRIGADE). POSTED TO FRANCE 18/11/16. DIED OF GUNSHOT WOUNDS TO CHEST. MARRIED 04/08/1902. WAS A HOUSE PAINTER IN 1911 & THEN A DOCK LABOURER WHEN WAR STARTED. WIFE ALICE ANN WHISKER & FOUR CHILDREN (ALICE, MINNIE, HAROLD & ALBERT). LIVED 10 RHODES TERRACE, STRICKLAND STREET, HULL.
SON OF JAMES THORP WHISKER & MARY ANN SIMPSON – 7 EAGAN TERRACE, STRICKLAND STREET. LEFT SISTERS EDITH, HANNAH, ELIZA, VIOLET & OLIVE & BROTHERS WILLIAM, JOSEPH & LAWRENCE WHISKER, WHO ALL LIVED IN THE HESSLE ROAD AREA. ARMY RECORDS SHOW THAT HE WAS 5 FOOT 1 INCH TALL, 106 LBS WEIGHT & CHEST SIZE 35 INCHES. WIDOW WAS AWARDED A WEEKLY PENSION OF 28 SHILLINGS & 9 PENCE FROM 04/03/1918, & RECEIVED HIS BRITISH WAR MEDAL & VICTORY MEDAL ON 6TH JANUARY 1920. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 4TH SEPTEMBER 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HE IS BURIED AT ST. LEGER BRITISH CEMETERY, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE.
