BORN HULL 1889. SECOND SON OF CHARLES JAMES WILLIAMS (1870-1934) AND FLORENCE MARY WILLIAMS (1869-1894). STEPMOTHER EMILY HERDSMAN (1876-1964), OF 24, LEE STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF A SOLICITOR’S CLERK. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. EMPLOYED AS A HORSEMAN. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 1.5 INCHES TALL, 119 LBS WEIGHT, 35-37 INCH CHEST.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 21/02/1916. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 10/12/1916. SERVED WITH THE 2ND DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. TAKEN PRISONER ON THE 21ST MARCH 1918, AFTER TWO AND HALF YEARS ACTIVE SERVICE IN THE FIELD. HE DIED OF DYSENTERY. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 10/12/1918.

HIS FOUR BROTHERS ALSO SERVED DURING THE WAR. HE WAS ONE OF TWO SONS KILLED IN THE WAR. HE IS BURIED AT BERLIN SOUTH-WESTERN CEMETERY, BRANDENBURG, GERMANY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “LEST WE FORGET LEST WE FORGET”
