1st class Stoker Arthur Willison (1894-1914) of Beverley

Arthur Willison was born on 22 March 1894 in Beverley, the son of Stephen Willison (1853-1931) and Betsy Robinson (1863-1954), of 59 Flemingate, Beverley (War Pension address). He had four brothers and two sisters. His family were farm labourers..

He served as First Class Stoker on aboard HMS Bulwark. He was killed on 26 November 1914 when HMS Bulwark was destroyed by a huge explosion, when anchored off the coast of Sheerness.

He was posthumously awarded the 1914 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

His brother, Lance Corporal, George Willison, Machine Gun Corps, died of wounds, on 12/10/1916, aged 28.
