Wilson, Herbert Parker

BORN HULL 03/09/1889. YOUNGEST SON OF MARGARET HANNAH PARKER (1845-1929) & LATE JAMES WILSON (1841-1913), OF 115 GRAFTON STREET, HULL. SON OF A PROVISION’S DEALER. HE HAD SEVEN BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS. BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED AS A  CLERK IN AN OIL MERCHANT COMPANY.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL ON 16/11/1914, AGED 25 AND 2 MONTHS. HE WAS OVER 6 FOOT TALL, 168 LBS WEIGHT, WITH A 37 INCH CHEST SIZE AND “GOOD” PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.  SERVED AS BOMBARDIER, WITH THE 124TH HULL HEAVY BATTERY, ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 28/04/1916. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 08/07/1916, AGED 26. HE IS BURIED AT CARNOY MILITARY CEMETERY, SOMME, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “PEACE PERFECT PEACE”

HE LEFT £604 IN HIS WILL TO HIS SISTER, GERTRUDE MALLISON. 115 GRAFTON STREET WAS HIS PROBATE ADDRESS.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 20/07/1916. HE IS LISTED ON THE ST JOHNS CHURCH MEMORIAL, NEWLAND, HULL

HIS BROTHER, GUNNER, ARTHUR JAMES WILSON, ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, WAS ALSO KILLED ON 25/10/1917. ANOTHER BROTHER, CHARLES HENRY WILSON, DIED ON 09/05/1919, AGED 33.
