BORN LEEDS 1896. SON OF CHARLES HENRY WINDLE (1863-1929) & (HEPZABETH) ELIZABETH WAINWRIGHT (1869-1909), OF 7, TEMPERENCE AVENUE, CLYDE STREET, HULL, (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). BEFORE THE WAR WORKED AS A PRINTER FOR MESSRS, GODDARD, WALKER AND BROWN, QUEENS STREET, HULL.
HE ENLISTED IN AS PRIVATE,1444, 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE TRANSFERRED AS PRIVATE, 23493, TO THE 150TH MACHINE GUN CORPS. HE WENT TO FRANCE WITH COLONEL SHAW ON THE 18TH APRIL 1915 AND HAD SPENT TWO BIRTHDAYS IN THE TRENCHES. PROMOTED TO SERGEANT. HE HAD RETURNED HOME ON LEAVE ON 1ST JANUARY 1916 FOR THE FIRST TIME. HE DIED ON 23/04/1917, AGED 21.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 5TH MAY 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
