BORN HULL 1882. WIFE ELIZABETH EMMA WINTERBOTTOM & SON, AT 10 CLARENCE AVENUE, BEDFORD STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS). A GREASE WORKS LABOURER. HE WAS WOUNDED IN THE LEFT LEG ON 13TH SEPTEMBER 1914. HIS LEG WAS AMPUTATED BELOW THE KNEE AND HE DIED OF WOUNDS ON 03/10/1914, AGED 34. HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH ARE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 17TH OCTOBER 1914. *
HE WAS THE FIRST WILMINGTON CASUALTY AND IS ON THE WILMINGTON ROLL OF HONOUR, SUTTON MEMORIAL.
