BORN HULL 1899. ELDEST CHILD OF FRANK & ALICE WOODALL, OF 24 UPPER UNION STREET, HULL AND 9 WILLIAM STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HIS FATHER WAS A COMMISSION AGENT. HE WAS BROTHER TO JOHN SEYMOUR WOODALL, AND THREE SISTERS, ANNIE, BERTHA, AND DORIS, WHO ALL LIVED AT 9 WILLIAM STREET, HULL. EMPLOYED AS A LABOURER. THIS WAS HIS ARMY ADDRESS.
HE ENLISTED IN THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, AGED 16 YEARS OLD. RE-ENLISTED ON 30/05/1917, AGED 17 YEARS AND 9 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 10.5 INCHES TALL, 37 INCH CHEST, 136 LBS WEIGHT, “GOOD” PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. DURING TRAINING, HE WAS FINED THREE DAYS PAY FOR GAMBLING IN A BARRACK ROOM, ON 14/01/1918. SENT TO FRANCE, ON 30/05/1918. HE TRANSFERRED TO THE WEST RIDING REGIMENT. HE WAS TRIED FOR A SELF INFLICTED GAS WOUND ON 31/07/1918, FOR DRINKING WATER FROM A SHELL HOLE WITH PRIVATE MELTON, OF THE SAME REGIMENT. HE WAS RELEASED DUE TO INSUFFICIENT EVIDENCE, BUT MELTON RECEIVED 28 DAYS FIELD PUNISHMENT NO:1. FRANK WOODALL RETURNED TO HIS UNIT AND WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 01/11/1918, AGED 18. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, ALICE. HE ALSO LEFT FAMILY, ANNIE, BERTHA, DORIS AND JOHN.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 23/12/1918. HE IS BURIED AT VALENCIENNES (ST. ROCH) COMMUNAL CEMETERY, NORD, FRANCE.
