BORN HULL 1894. SON OF HENRY GRASBY WRIGHT (1854-1904) & KATE BRADBURY WRIGHT (1859-1926), OF 66 BRIDLINGTON STREET, FOUNTAIN ROAD, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS). HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. WAS ONE OF THREE SONS LOST IN THE WAR.
THE FAMILY LIVED AT 5 WATERHOUSE LANE, HULL (1911 CENSUS), WHERE THEY RAN A TOBACCONIST BUSINESS. HE WORKED AS AN ENGINEERING CLERK, AT ROSEDOWN AND THOMPSON. HE ENLISTED IN THE 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE TERRITORIALS ON 09/05/1912. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 8 INCHES TALL, 36 INCH CHEST, GOOD VISION, “FAIR” DEVELOPMENT. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 17/04/1915. PROMOTED TO CORPORAL AND SERGEANT DURING THE WAR. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 26/02/1916, AGED 22. UNMARRIED. HE LEFT BROTHER, GUNNER, HENRY STANLEY WRIGHT, WHO SERVED IN THE ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY, AND SISTERS, GERTRUDE AND VIOLET.

HIS BROTHER, PERCY GRASBY WRIGHT WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 03/05/1915, AGED 27. HIS OTHER BROTHER, LANCE CORPORAL, SYDNEY FREDERICK, 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 09/09/1918, AGED 35. HE IS RECORDED ON THE COTTINGHAM WAR MEMORIAL.
