BORN HULL 1/4/1886. SON OF CHARLES & ANNA WYSTHOFF OF NORWAY AND HULL. HIS WIFE FLORENCE SIMPSON WYSTHOFF (BORN 1/3/1886) LIVED AT 2, JOHNSON’S PLACE, PORTER STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THEY HAD THREE CHILDREN, CHARLES WILLIAM AND FLORENCE MARY.
HE WAS LOST AT SEA ON THE TRAWLER LUCKNOW WHICH WAS MINED 2 MILES FROM PORTSMOUTH ON 18/05/1917.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE CHATHAM NAVAL MONUMENT, KENT, AND LOCALLY ON THE WALKER STREET WAR MEMORIAL.
Lucknow, built by Cook, Welton & Gemmell, Beverley in 1903 and operated at the time of her loss by Royal Navy, was a British navy trawler of 171 tons. On May 18th, 1917, Lucknow was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-36 (Gustav Buch), off Portsmouth, 2 miles west of the Owers lightvessel. 9 persons were lost. PEOPLE ON BOARD HMT LUCKNOW
