BORN PATRINGTON 1899. SON OF ALFRED (1872-1961) & JULIA YARDLEY (1872-1951) of 20 ARGYLE TERRACE, ARGYLE STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). ONE OF TWO SONS. HIS FATHER WAS A RAILWAY PORTER. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 04/08/1918, AGED 19.
HIS NAME WAS LISTED ON THE WILSON LINE CRICKET & ATHLETIC CLUB’S ROLL OF HONOUR. HIS ONLY BROTHER, PTE. ALFRED YARDLEY, SERVED WITH THE 51ST KOYLI.
HE IS BURIED AT ST. ERME COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “WE SHALL MEET ON THAT BEAUTIFUL SHORE”.
