BORN TIPPERARY 1881. SON OF WILLIAM YEOMAN (1852-1912) AND MARGARET McCARDLE (1853-1890), OF 5 PRINCES ROAD, DOCK STREET, HULL. HIS FATHER WAS BORN IN GOOLE. A FORMER ARTILLERYMAN AND WORKED AS A BRICKLAYER. HIS MOTHER WAS FROM DUNDALK, LOUTH, IRELAND. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS, JOSEPH AND CHARLES AND ONE SISTER, ANNIE WHITFIELD, WHO LIVED IN HULL.

HE MARRIED AT ST MARY’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, HULL, ON 02/02/1899. HUSBAND OF MARY ANN GIBLIN (1880-1947), AT 15 BOXWOOD AVENUE, LEE SMITH STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). THEY HAD FIVE SONS AND FOUR DAUGHTERS. EMPLOYED AS A DOCKSIDE LABOURER. LIVING AT 1 MERRICK TERRACE, WARWICK STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS). HE WAS DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 8.5 INCHES TALL, 189 LBS WEIGHT, 41-43 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, LIGHT BROWN HAIR.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 15/09/1914. SERVED WITH THE 11TH HULL, HEAVY BATTERY, 38TH BRIGADE, ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. TRAINED AT HEDON, RACECOURSE, WHERE HE WAS FINED, FIVE TIMES, FOR  BREAKING OUT OF BARRACKS. HE EMBARKED FROM DEVONPORT, ON 02/06/1916. ARRIVED AT KILINDINI, EAST AFRICA, ON 16/03/1916. ATTACHED TO THE 12TH HOWITZER BATTERY. HE DIED OF DYSENTRY AND MALARIA, AT KONDOA, IRANGI, TANZANIA, EAST AFRICA, ON 08/06/1916, AGED 35. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 268 DAYS.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 12/06/1918. HE IS BURIED AT DAR ES SALAAM WAR CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “HIS COUNTRY CALLED HE ANSWERED R.I.P.”

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, MARY ANN. SHE HAD SEVEN SURVIVING CHILDREN (FIVE AGED UNDER 14). THEIR ELDEST SON, WILLIAM, SERVED AT SEA DURING THE WAR.
