All Saints WW1 Plaque, Rise, East Riding

Born North Somercoates, Lincs, 29 Nov 1896. Eldest child of Robert Young (1866-1939) and Florence Pinkney (1870-1964), of New Rise, Skirlaugh, Hull (war pension address). Son of a Bricklayer. He had two brothers and one sister, who all lived at home, in Skirlaugh.

He was unmarried and worked as a Clerk in Hull. described as 5 foot, 7 inches tall, 33-35 inch chest, 128 lbs weight, fair physical development.

Enlisted in Hull, on 24th November 1915. Served with the 21st King’s Royal Rifle Corps. Died of wounds, on 17/09/1916, aged 19.

Buried in France. His grave reads, LOVED IN LIFE RESPECTED IN DEATH

He is also commemorated on a Brass Paque at All Saints Church, Hull Road, Rise, with three others.

His father, Robert Young wrote to the War Ministry requesting more of his son’s articles to be returned.
