BORN HULL 1887. SON OF JAMES RICHARD YULL (1861-1938) & SARAH MATILDA YULL (1863-1951). ELDEST OF SIX CHILDREN. HIS FATHER WAS A SISSONS’ OIL REFINERY FOREMAN.

HE MARRIED AT ST MARY’S CHURCH, SCULCOATES, HULL, ON 15/08/1915. HIS WIFE FLORENCE CECILIA FROST (1889-1959) & TWO DAUGHTERS, LIVED AT 20, SISSON STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS) AND 14, BRENTWOOD VILLAS, REYNOLDSON STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS)

BEFORE ENLISTING HE WORKED FOR 16 YEARS AS AN OIL REFINER, WITH MESSERS SISSONS BROS, BANKSIDE, SCULCOATES LANE. HIS BROTHER, JAMES YULL, JR, WAS A NEEDLER’S FOREMAN AND SERVED IN THE ROYAL AIR FORCE. HIS OTHER BROTHER, THOMAS SPENCELEY YULL WAS A EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT TERRITORIAL.

EDWIN YULL ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 20/11/1915., AGED 29 YEARS AND 1 MONTH. HIS ARMY RECORDS DESCRIBE HIM AS 5 FOOT, 5 INCHES TALL, 142 LBS WEIGHT, 37 INCH CHEST SIZE. A QUALIFIED MOTOR DRIVER. HE SERVED IN THE ROYAL ARMY SERVICE CORPS, 282ND MOTOR TRANSPORT COMPANY, ATTACHED TO THE 1ST HEAVY ARTILLERY. HE DIED OF INFLUENZA, AT THE 1ST AUSTRALIAN CASUALTY CLEARING STATION, FRANCE A WEEK AFTER THE WAR ENDED. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 2ND DECEMBER 1918, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *

HE IS BURIED AT TOURNAI COMMUNAL CEMETERY ALLIED EXTENSION, HAINAUT, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS “REST WITH THE LORD”.

HIS NAME IS INSCRIBED ON THE STONE PILLAR WW1 MEMORIAL, ST MARYS CHURCH SCULCOATES LANE, HULL.
