Hall, Charles

Born St Pauls, Hull, 1883. Second son of James Hall, of 13 Beech Street, Hull; 12, Gordon Avenue, Cannon Street, Hull, 11, Bowers Terrace, Waterloo Street, Hull & 24 , Poplar Avenue, Poplar Street, Chapman Street, Hull (Army record addresses). He had three brothers and four sisters. The family moved frequently and was living at 41 Caroline Place Charles Street Hull (1911). Charles’  war pension address was 4, Marsh Street, Scott Street, Hull. He started work as a labourer & Machinist. Described as 5 foot, 9 inches tall, 130 lbs weight, 38 inch chest, 35 inch waist, brown eyes, brown hair, Church of England religion, tattoos both arms. Enlisted in the Coldstream Guards, on 24 Sept 1901, aged 18. Served for 12 years and was posted to France, with the British Expeditionary Force in 1914. Received gun shot wounds to the head and hand, on 29 Oct 1914. Captured by the Germans he was a prisoner for over 4 years, until repatriated via Holland on 13 Mar 1918. Suffered from deafness and dizziness. Died at Hull on 30 Mar 1926
