BORN HULL 1895. SON OF JOE SMITH ANDERTON (1863-1925) & SARAH ELLEN HARDISTY, OF 10 , ENDSLEIGH VILLAS, WELLSTED STREET, HULL. BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED AS A COOK FOR THE WILSON LINE PASSENGER LINERS. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED IN THE COLDSTREAM GUARDS. HE HAD BEEN ON ACTIVE SERVICE FOR 12 MONTHS. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 16/02/1916, AGED 21. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 18TH OCTOBER 1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.* HIS DEATH WAS ALSO REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 20/10/1916 & 06/11/1916. HIS BROTHERS, HARRY, GEORGE, FRED, & THOMAS ANDERTON ALSO SERVED. HIS TWO SISTERS WERE NURSES IN LONDON HOSPITALS. HE IS BURIED AT HULL’S HEDON ROAD CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, THAT HIS BROTHER HARRY DIED OF WOUNDS IN 1925.
HIS BROTHER, HARRY ANDERTON, ENLISTED IN 1914, SERVED IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, AND WAS BADLY WOUNDED IN 1918,. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, AT LEEDS MILITARY HOSPITAL, ON 13/01/1925. HE IS BURIED IN HULL WESTERN CEMETERY.

CORPORAL, HAROLD ANDERTON, 3738, 1/4TH EYR, DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 16/09/1916 AT TIS SAME ADDRESS (WAR PENSION RECORDS).
