Bailey, Charles Robert

SON OF ELIZABETH JANE HEPWORTH, OF 1 IVY VILLAS, SELBY STREET, HULL.  HE LOST HIS STEP FATHER CHIEF ENGINEER, JAMES HEPWORTH AND UNCLE, ABLE SEAMAN, JAMES WILLIAM HODGSON, FROM WASSAND STREET, ON THE SAME SHIP. IT WAS SUNK BY A MINE EXPLOSION IN THE THAMES ESTUARY. THEY WERE THE ONLY THREE MEMBERS OF THE CREW TO PERISH, THE REST WERE SAVED. CHARLIES BODY WAS NOT RECOVERED. HE IS REMEMBERED ON THE CHATHAM NAVAL  MEMORIAL, KENT.

HMT Scott, built by Cochrane & Sons Ltd, Selby in 1913 and operated at the time of her loss by Royal Navy, was a British navy trawler of 288 tons.
On October 22nd, 1915, HMT Scott was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-1 (Egon von Werner), off the Tongue lightvessel. 3 persons were lost.
