Bainbridge, Joseph

BORN HULL 1880. ENLISTED NEWCASTLE. LIVED IN GATESHEAD. SENT TO THE RAGGED AND INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL IN CUMBERLAND IN 1891. A FORMER LABOURER. HE JOINED THE ARMY ON 06/02/1901. WAS SERVING AS A REGULAR SOLDIER IN THE DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY, ON THE OUT BREAK OF WAR. ARRIVED IN BELGIUM, ON 08/09/1914, AS PART OF THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 27/10/1914, AGED 34. COMMEMORATED ON THE PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW FRANCES.
