BORN HULL 1893. SON OF HERBERT BOAST OF 365 HAWTHORNE AVENUE. ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN. HE WORKED FOR HIS FATHER AS A CARRIER.

HE MARRIED AT HULL, IN APRIL 1915. HIS WIFE REBECCA HODGSON (1895-1972) LIVED AT 5, HARROW TERRACE, HARROW STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). HIS SON HERBERT WAS BORN ON 20/10/1915.

HE ENLISTED IN THE 13TH EYR (HULL PALS), ON 5TH DECEMBER 1914. HIS ARMY RECORDS DESCRIBE HIM, AS 5 FOOT 4 INCHES TALL, 143 LBS WEIGHT, 35.5 INCH CHEST SIZE AND ‘GOOD’ PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. HE SAW ACTION IN EGYPT, AND WAS POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 08/03/1916. HE TRANSFERRED TO THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, ON 20/09/1918. HE DIED IN ACTION ON THE 7TH OCTOBER 1918, AGED 25. COMMEMORATED ON THE VIS-EN-ARTOIS MEMORIAL, FRANCE.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, REBECCA, AND SON HERBERT (1915-1994).

HIS NAME APPEARS IN ST BARNABAS CHURCH AND ON ST JOHN THE BAPTIST WW1 MEMORIAL, NEWINGTON, HULL.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 29TH OCTOBER 1918, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
