Bond, Leslie Harold

Born Lewisham, London 1895. Son of Herbert George Frederick and Sarah Ann Bond, of 4, Victoria Cottages, Green Lane, New Eltham, London. He had two brothers and two sisters. Both his brothers enlisted.

Harold was a steward and one of many ship crewmen, docked in Hull, when war began.  He enlisted in Hull, on 31/12/1914, aged 19. He train in Hull until the 9th August 1915, before more training at Ripon and Salisbury. He served with the 12th East Yorkshire Regiment (Hull Sportsmen) in Egypt and France.

He was severely wounded in the buttocks, at Serre, on 16th November 1916 and died of wounds on 23/11/1916, aged 21. His sporting adventure was over.

His army effects were left to his parents in Kent. They included his ID disc, post cards, photos, rosary, a photo case, two knives and a linen bag.
