Bowes, James

Born Beeford, Driffield, 1890.  Son of William and Emma Bowes, of Beeford, Driffield, Yorkshire. He lived in Beeford. Had six brothers and three sisters. He was one of three sons killed in the war along with Fred (1893-1918) – (Lancashire Fusiliers) and Leonard Bowes (1895-1916) – (EYR). He came from a large farming family and worked as a farm servant on other farms.

He enlisted in Hull with his brother Leonard. Served with the 65th Battery, 31st Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Died of wounds, on 01/10/1915, aged 25. Buried at Vermelles British Cemetery, France. His grave reads, EVER IN OUR THOUGHTS
