BORN SUTTON ON HULL 1897. SON OF MICHAEL BURNS (1864-1945) & CATHERINE (KATE) SHERIDAN (1868-1934) OF 14, GEORGES PLACE, FINKLE STREET, MYTON GATE, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). THE FAMILY LIVED AT 16, ANN’S PLACE CHAPMAN STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS).

SON OF A DOCK LABOURER. ONE OF 12 CHILDREN, MANY OF WHICH DIED IN INFANCY. WORKED AS A BOILER MAKER’S LABOURER, AT THE LOCAL SHIPYARD..

HE ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 23/06/1914. SERVED WITH THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 04/06/1916, AGED 19.

BURIED AT, NORFOLK CEMETERY, BECORDEL-BECOURT, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “NEATH THE DARK SOD THEY LAID OUR BOY IN HEAVEN THERE IS GREAT JOY MUMMA & DIDDA”

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 09/10/1916.
