BORN THWING, 30/08/1874. SON OF FRANCIS RUDD (1849-1881) & ELIZABETH CHAMPLIN (1844-1911). HE MARRIED MARGARET ROBSON (1877-1963), AT FOXHOLES, GANTON, YORKSHIRE, ON 09/12/1898. THEY HAD SEVEN CHILDREN AND LIVED AT 26, GRANGE STREET, HULL, AND 201, BLENHEIM STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS).

A FORMER NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY PORTER. HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 01/12/1915, AGED 37 YEARS AND 4 MONTHS. SERVED IN THE ROYAL ENGINEERS, 98TH LIGHT RAILWAY SECTION. HIS ARMY RECORDS DESCRIBE HIM AS 5 FOOT, 10.5 INCHES TALL, 42 INCH CHEST. HE ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 11/12/1916. POSTED TO THE MIDDLE EAST, ON 17/12/1917. RETURNED TO ENGLAND ON 04/04/1919. HE HAD LOST A FINGER AND THUMB DURING MILITARY SERVICE. HE DIED AT THE MINISTRY OF PENSIONS, HOSPITAL, LEEDS, ON 23/05/1921, AGED 47. HE IS BURIED IN HULL WESTERN CEMETERY.
