BORN HULL 10/05/1893. SON OF THOMAS CHANT (1855-1936) AND ELIZABETH ADA BRIGGS (1870-1936), OF KINGS COURT, HIGH STREET, HULL, AND LATER SOUTH 6 BRADFORD ROW, HALL GATE, DONCASTER. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER.

BROTHER TO, THOMAS HENRY CHANT & PERCY WILLIAM CHANT, WHO ALL LIVED AT KINGS COURT, HULL. HE EMIGRATED TO CANADA. WORKED AS A CHEESE BOX MAKER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 7 INCHES TALL, 37 INCH CHEST, 162 LBS WEIGHT, BROWN EYES, BLACK HAIR, DARK COMPLEXION, CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION, TWO MOLES ON HIS LEFT CHEEK AND CRESCENT SHAPED SCAR ON HIS LEFT SHIN.

ENLISTED AT BROCKVILLE, ONTARIO, ON 07/09/1915. SERVED WITH THE 46TH CANADIAN BATTALION. KILLED IN ACTION, AT VIMY ,ON 11/11/1916, AGED 23.

COMMEMORATED AT THE VIMY MEMORIAL, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAIL MAIL, ON 02/12/1916. *

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE RETURNED TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER BESSIE, WHO MOVED TO DONCASTER AND HIS SISTER VIRGINIA CHANT WHO LIVED IN PHILPSVILLE, ONTARIO, CANADA.
NB: HIS BROTHER, PERCY WILLIAM CHANT, MACHINE GUN CORPS, LIVED AT 116 WHEELER STREET; HULL. HIS OTHER BROTHER, SAPPER, THOMAS HENRY CHANT, RE’S, DIED OF INFLUENZA AND SHELL SHOCK, AT GREECE, ON 07/01/1919, AGED 29.
