Clements, Archibald Cecil

BORN ENFIELD, MIDDLESEX, 05/09/1884. SON OF GEORGE CLEMENTS (1845-1922) & MARIA JANE OAKLEY (1862-1931), OF 16 DANES CRESCENT, EASTBOURNE STREET, HULL. ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN.

HE HAD SERVED AT SEA BETWEEN 01/12/1901 AND 13/03/1907. DISMISSED FROM THE NAVY FOR REFUSING TO OBEY ORDERS AND ATTEMPTING TO STRKE A SUPERIOR OFFICER. HE THEN WORKED AS A SHIPYARD LABOURER.

HE MARRIED IN HULL, ON 24/01/1910. HIS WIFE FRANCES MARY RIPLEY (1891-1984), LIVED AT 5 WHITBY STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 10 DANES CRESCENT, EASTBOURNE STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). THEY HAD THREE CHILDREN. SHE MOVED TO 17, YORK TERRACE, ST MARK STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS GUNNER, 46787, IN THE ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. HE DIED OF PNEUMONIA, AT BARNSLEY, ON 07/04/1916, AGED 30. HE IS BURIED HEDON ROAD CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “MEMORIES”.
