BORN HULL 1896. SON OF MR ALBERT & MARGARET COCKERILL ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN. THEY LOST 3 SONS IN THE WAR. BORN SCULCOATES. EX OIL MILLER. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 13383, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT.. TRANSFERRED TO THE MACHINE GUN CORP. KILLED IN ACTION ON 30/12/1916, AGED 20. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 10TH JANUARY 1917 WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. * AND AGAIN (HDM 07/12/1917). UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, ALBERT. HE HAS NO KNOWN GRAVE AND IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
HIS OLDER BROTHER PTE, FRANK COCKERILL, 12TH EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION, WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 16/08/1916, AGED 25. HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, PTE, EDWARD COCKERILL, 1ST EYR, WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 17/06/1917, AGED 19.
