BORN DONCASTER 1879. LIVED IN HULL. SON OF HARRY (1849-1917) AND EMMA COLLINS, OF DONCASTER. PARENTS DECEASED. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER.

HE MARRIED ON 22/08/1907. HUSBAND OF SARAH CAROLINE PATCHING (1880-1941) AND FATHER OF FIVE CHILDREN THEY LIVED AT 3, EDNA GROVE, HADDON STREET, HULL, (OFF HAWTHORN AVENUE). HE WORKED FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY AS A BRUSH HAND IN HULL ENGINEERS DEPARTMENT. HE WAS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, 35-37.5 INCH CHEST, 138 LBS WEIGHT

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 17/11/1914. TRAINED AT BEVERLEY AND RIPON. SENT TO FRANCE ON 07/03/1916. SERVED WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT (4TH HULL PALS BATTALION), IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, AT SERRE, ON 13/11/1916, AGED 37. BURIED AT EUSTON ROAD CEMETERY, FRANCE.

HIS WAR PENSION WENT TO HIS WIDOW AND FIVE CHILDREN.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY ROLL OF HONOUR. HE IS BURIED AT EUSTON ROAD CEMETERY, COLINCAMPS, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE, INSCRIPTION, READS, “AT REST”.
