ALBERT WAS A AN OFFICE CLERK. HE ENLISTED IN NEWCASTLE, ON 19/11/1915, AGED 19. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 106921, 60TH ROYAL ARMY MEDICAL CORPS (RAMC). DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 4 INCHES TALL, 120 LBS, 34.5 INCH CHEST, WESLEYAN RELIGION & BAD TEETH. HE LEFT SOUTHAMPTON, ON 09/06/1917. ARRIVED IN SALONIKA, ON 28/06/1917. DIED OF INFLUENZA, ON 01/10/1918, AGED 21.
HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE RAMC MEMORIAL WENLOCK BARRACKS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 16/10/1918.
HE IS BURIED IN GREECE AT KIRECHKOI-HORTAKOI MILITARY CEMETERY, GREECE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS. “GOD IS HIS OWN INTERPRETER”.

HIS BROTHER, PTE: HAROLD COPELAND, MACHINE GUN CORPS, SERVED AT THE SAME ADDRESS. HIS OTHER BROTHER, VIVIAN MARSHALL COPELAND DIED IN HULL IN JUNE 1916, AGED 21.
