BORN HULL 1877. BOTH PARENTS DECEASED. HE HAD OLDER SIBLINGS, ARTHUR AND MARRIED SISTERS, ELIZABETH WALAH, AND MARTHA HARRISON.

EMPLYED AS A LABOURER. MARRIED TWICE. HIS FIRST WIFE DIED. HE WAS IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH MRS DENLEY, AT 2, TADMAN STREET, HULL AND HAD ONE SON, ERNEST (BORN 6TH MAY 1905).

HE MARRIED SARAH JANE SANDERSON, ON 19/04/1915, AT KINGS HALL CHURCH, FOUNTAIN ROAD, HULL. THEY LIVED AT 9, KATES TERRACE, CAVE STREET, HULL (ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN HULL ON 30/11/1914, AGED 37 YEARS AND 11 MONTHS. HE TRAINED AT BEVERLEY. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 22/04/1915. SERVED WITH THE 2ND EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, AT YPRES, ON 05/05/1915, AGED 38. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 157 DAYS.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE MENIN GATE MEMORIAL. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 28/06/1915.
HE HAD BEEN MARRIED FOR 3 DAYS BEFORE HE WAS POSTED ABROAD.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, SARAH JANE SANDERSON. SHE MOVED TO 4, FREEHOLD STREET, HULL, WITH HER ADOPTED SON MERNEST. SHE WAS REFUSED A WAR PENSION WHEN ERNEST WENT TO LIVE WITH HIS MOTHER, MRS DENLY AT 2, TADMAN STREET, HULL.
