The Filey War Memorial Archway

Born Filey, Yorkshire, 1894. Son of Robert Dixon Ellerker (1862-1947) and Frances Mary Gilman (1862-1938), of of “Edzell,” Victoria Avenue, Knaresborough, Yorkshire (CWGC Address). He had two brothers and one sister, Robert, Walter and Edith.

Employed as a Drapers Assistant, living at 29 Osborne Street, Hull (1911 Census).

He enlisted in Hull. Served with the 4th East Yorkshire Regiment. Posted to france, on 01/09/1915. Died of wounds at the 2nd Northumberland Field Ambulance, Armentieres, on 06/10/1915, aged 21. Unmarried. His army effects were left to his father, Robert Dixon Ellerker. He is buried in Frannce. His grave inscription, reads, “TO MEMORY DEAR”

His brother Private, Walter Gilman Ellerker, 54445, 16th Northumberland Fusiliers, died of wounds, on 30/11/1917, aged 26 and is buried in Belgium.

Both brothers are commemorated on the Filey WW1 Memorial.
