Born Wilberfoss, Yorkshire, England, 1895. Son of Peter Gaul, of Little Ouseburn, York, and the late Annie Mary Gaul. A farm Labourer, working at Great Ouseburn Kirby Hall Little Ouseburn, (1911 Census)

Enlisted Harrogate, York. Served with the South Staffordshire Regiment, 4th Special Reserve Battalion. Taken Prisoner. He died of wounds, in Germany, on 01/05/1918, aged 23. Unmarried. His army effects were left to his father, Peter.

He is commemorated on the Wilberfos WW1 Memorial.
