Born Hull 1898. Son of George Gledhill Gill (1860-1913) and Bertha Kelling (1862-1902), of George Street, Cottingham, Yorkshire (War Pension Address). Son of a Lithographer. One of six children. A Butcher’s Errand Boy.

He enlisted in Hull. Formerly, Private, 789, East Yorkshire Regiment. Transferred to the 2nd Dublin Fusiliers. Died of wounds, on 07/10/1918, aged 21. Awarded the Military Medal (MM) for bravery.  His army effects were left to his stepmother, Eliza Ann. He is buried at the Somme, France. His grave inscription, reads, “Deeply Lamented” (Hull Daily Mail 28/10/1918)

THIRD SON OF GEORGE GLEDHILL GILL (1860-1913) & STEPMOTHER, ELIZA ANN GILL, OF 132, FOUNTAIN ROAD, HULL (1911 CENSUS),  12, VANCOUVER TERRACE, ALEXANDRA ROAD, HULL AND GEORGE STREET, COTTINGHAM.

HIS BROTHER, GEORGE WILLIAM GILL, ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS. KILLED ON 11/07/1917, AGED 23. RHE BROTHERS ARE BOTH RECORDED ON THE COTTINGHAM WW1 MEMORIAL.
