Harrison, William.

Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE WILLIAM HARRISON 12/589. Born in Hartlepool in 1887, William was the son of George and Emily Harrison. A Labourer by trade he moved south with his wife Gertrude and three children Elsie, George and Stanley. The family lived at 5 Florence Avenue, Grange Street, Hull. William enlisted at City Hall on 24th September 1914 joining the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, ‘The Sportsmen’, 3rd Hull Pals. He was carried from the trenches by stretcher bearers on 26th May 1916 suffering from multiple shrapnel wounds, and fought hard, but died in St John’s Hospital, Etaples on 1st June. He is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery; he was 29 years old.
