LIVED WITH SISTER SARA ANN BRAMAN, AT 37, BLACKFRIARGATE, HULL (1911 CENSUS). ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS, ON 19/11/1914. KILLED IN ACTION 13/11/1916, AGED 40. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS SISTER, SARAH ANN.
Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE ROBERT HART 12/1148. Born in July 1876, Robert was the fourth of six children to William and Sarah Hart. A Labourer before the war he enlisted at City Hall on 19th November, joining the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, 3rd Hull Pals. He was killed in action at Serre on the Somme 13th November 1916 and buried in Euston Road Cemetery; he was 40 years old. The whole motto behind the formation of the Pals Battalions up and down the country, was that men who joined together, fought together. Fine, except the high incidence of men who enlisted on 19th November 1914 and died on 13th November 1916 proves that other fatal truth- those who fought together, died together.

Serre, 13th November 1916
