Henderson, George Albert

BORN HULL 1885. SON OF ALEXANDER GRANT HENDERSON (1856-1930) & ANNIE ELIZABETH HENDERSON (1859-1918), OF 446 HESSLE ROAD, HULL (1911 CENSUS).

HE MARRIED MINNIE MOULD (1892-1929), AT HULL, IN 1911. HUSBAND OF MINNIE HENDERSON, AT 89 , WESTBOURNE STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). HIS FATHER WAS A PROVISIONS DEALER FROM SCOTLAND. HE WORKED FOR HIS FATHER AS AN ERRAND BOY AT HULL DOCKS.

HE SERVED IN THE MERCHANT NAVY. THIRD HAND ON THE STEAM SHIP “EXPEDIENT”. LOST AT SEA, ON 27/03/1917, AGED 31.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL AT ST CHARLES BORROMEO CHURCH, JARRATT STREET, HULL.

Expedient, built by Mackie & Thomson, Govan in 1893 and owned at the time of her loss by Great Northern Steamship Fishing Co. Ltd., Hull, was a British trawler of 145 tons. On March 28th, 1917, Expedient was scuttled by the German submarine UC-75 (Johannes Lohs), in the North Sea. The crew was ordered to the lifeboats, but none were seen again. 10 persons were lost.
