HE MARRIED AT SCULCOATES, HULL, IN 1912. HIS WIFE, ELIZABETH JANE C LAWRIE, LIVED AT 10, LILLY GROVE, SUBWAY STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS).
HE SERVED IN THE MERCHANT NAVY AND WAS LOST AT SEA, ON 05/11/1915, AGED 33
HIS BROTHER, THOMAS HENRY HOLNESS, WAS ALSO A BOSUN AND WAS LOST AT SEA IN 1918. BOTH BROTHERS ARE COMMEMORATED ON LONDON’S TOWER HILL MEMORIAL.
On November 5th, 1915, the Hull steam trawler JERSEY (H270), built in 1895 by Cochrane & Sons Shipbuilders Ltd. and owned at the time of her loss by Hull Steam Fishing & Ice Co. Ltd., left Hull for a North Sea fishing trip, and went missing along with all her crew. She was not heard of ever since. No survivors. PEOPLE ON BOARD FV JERSEY123
