HMS Recruit, built by J. & G. Thomson, Ltd., Glasgow in 1896 and owned at the time of her loss by Royal Navy, was a British destroyer of 335 tons. On May 1st, 1915, HMS Recruit was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine UB-6 (Erich Haecker), 30 miles southwest of the Galloper lightvessel. 34 persons were lost. Torpedoed by the German submarine UB-6 off Galloper Light Vessel, North Sea, the torpedo explosion cut the vessel in half and she sank rapidly.
