BORN HULL 28/12/1893. SON OF JAMES HUNTER (1866-1931) & SELINA MARY KENNINGTON (1869-1936), OF 61, HAVELOCK STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 8, EDITH’S GROVE, BRIGHTON STREET, HULL. SON OF A TRAWLERMAN. HE HAD ONE BROTHER AND TWO SISTERS. BEFORE THE WAR, HE WORKED AS A TRIMMER ON HULL TRAWLERS.

HIS WIFE MARTHA A. PREVALL, LIVED IN LEEDS.  HE WAS A FIREMAN, ON HER MAJESTY’S DRIFTER, “PLANTIN”, WHEN HIS VESSEL STRUCK A MINE. HE WAS KILLED AT SEA, AGED 23. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 07/05/1917. *

HIS ELDER BROTHER, JAMES ROBERT HUNTER, RNR, HMS “CONDOR”, DROWNED ON 29/05/1915, AGED 25, WHILST FISHING IN THE NORTH SEA. HIS FATHER SERVED AS A CHIEF ENGINEER ON A MINESWEEPER.

HMD Plantin, built by McIntosh, Buckie in 1912 and operated at the time of her loss by Royal Navy, was a British navy drifter of 84 tons. On April 26th, 1917, HMD Plantin was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-72 (Ernst Voigt), 3 miles east of Anvil Point. 9 persons were lost. Allen Tony 19/02/2008 Plantin FV was a British Steam Drifter used in counter mine activities off Standfast Point.
