Jackson, Harry

BORN HULL 27/02/1895. SON OF ALFRED JACKSON & CHARLOTTE ELLEN JACKSON, OF 15 CHANCE STREET, LANDPORT, PORTSMOUTH. HIS FATHER WAS A SHIPWRIGHT WORKER. HARRY SERVED AS A ROYAL MARINE MESSENGER. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON HMS “QUEEN MARY”,AT JUTLAND, ON 31/05/1916, AGED 20. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL. HIS BROTHER WALTER JACKSON DIED OF WOUNDS AT GALLIPOLI IN 1915.

HMS Queen Mary was a Queen Mary class Battle Cruiser, lost at the battle of Jutland. At 16.25 Queen Mary exploded and went down in only 90 seconds after probably receiving a hit from the German Battle Cruiser Von Der Tann.
