BORN HULL 1894. SON OF MARIA JANE KANGAS, OF, 25, HERON STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). RESIDENT IN THE HULL SEAMAN’S ORPHANAGE (1901 CENSUS). HIS MOTHER WAS A WIDOW AND WORKED IN A STEAM LAUNDRY. HE WORKED AS A TANNER’S LABOURER AND BARK GRINDER (1911 CENSUS).

ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 11131, 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE  PIONEERS. POSTED ABROAD, ON 22ND SEPTEMBER 1915. HE SERVED AT THE DARDENELLES & IN EGYPT. TRANSFERRED TO THE 15TH LEICESTER REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED AGAIN AS PRIVATE, 639459, LABOUR CORPS. DIED OF WOUNDS, AT NO: 62 CASUALTY CLEARING STATION, ON 29/09/1918, AGED 24.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, MARIA JANE.
