Kearton, Charles William

BORN HULL 1880. SON OF CHARLES CHAPMAN KEARTON (1841-1905) AND HARRIET INGLEDEW (1849-1900), OF WHEELER STREET, HULL. HE HAD FIVE SISTERS AND TWO BROTHERS.

A MARRIED MAN AND PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER WHEN WAR BEGAN. HE MARRIED  GERTRUDE EDITH PHILLIPS (1884-1955), AT READING, BERKSHIRE, IN 1910. THEY HAD TWO CHILDREN, HILDA AND CHARLES.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. HAD PREVIOUSLY SERVED IN INDIA AND WAS BASED IN FARNBOROUGH, HAMPSHIRE. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 17/08/1914. SERVED AS CORPORAL AND ACTING SERGEANT, IN THE 5TH FIELD COMPANY, ROYAL ENGINEERS. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 18/03/1915, AGED 35. BURIED AT METZ COMMUNAL CEMETERY, FRANCE.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, GERTRUDE EDITH KEARTON, AT PARK COTTAGE, FARNBOROUGH, HAMPSHIRE.

COMMEMORATED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL, AT ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, NEWINGTON, HULL.
