Langhorne, Sydney

Withernsea WW1 Memorial, Queens Street. The memorial was erected in 1923 at a cost of £451, the funds for which were collected through public subscription. A service of dedication was held in 1924. Inscribed in four columns, are the names of sixty-four men killed in World War I.

BORN HULL. SON OF FREDERICK AND ALICE CLARA LANGHORNE, OF 15 WAXHOLME ROAD, WITHERNSEA, HULL. SON OF A HUMBER MERCHANT CLERK. HE HAD ONE BROTHER AND TWO SISTERS.

ENLISTED WITHERNSEA. SERVED IN THE HOUSEHOLD CAVALRY. KILLED IN ACTION,  ON 10/10/1917, AGED 19. COMMEMORATED ON THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL, BELGIUM.

HIS OTHER BROTHER, FRED LANGHORNE, WAS ALSO KILLED IN THE WAR. BOTH ARE COMMEMORATED ON THE WITHERNSEA WW1 MEMORIAL.
