SON OF JACOB AND ANDREAS LEE (1863-1918) AND OLIVIA CECILIA ABRAHAMSON (1868-1956), OF 64 HAMPSHIRE STREET, HULL AND 44 MADELEY STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL (BOTH WAR PENSION ADDRESSES). HIS PARENTS WERE NORWEGIAN. SON OF A SAILOR. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS, ALL BORN IN HULL. HE WORKED AS A MOULDERS LABOURER (1911 CENSUS) AND AS A HORSEMAN. HIS ARMY RECORDS DESCRIBE HIM AS 5 FOOT, 9 INCHES TALL, 146 LBS WEIGHT, 35-37 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, BROWN HAIR, TATTOOS ON LEFT ARM, OF BUFFLO BILL, SAILOR & CLSPED HANDS AND ON THE RIGHT ARM, A FEMALE GLADIATOR, SCOTCH GIRL, SHIP & LIGHTHOUSE.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 09/10/1914. INTIALLY HE JOINED THE COLDSTREAM GUARDS, BUT WAS REJECTED AFTER 18 DAYS, FOLLOWING BOUTS OF PLURESY, PNEUMONIA AND ELIPSEY. HIS EXPERIENCE WITH HORSES MADE HIM AN IDEAL DRIVER FOR THE HEAVY ARTILLERY. HE WAS POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 01/06/1915. SERVED AS A DRIVER IN THE ROYAL ARMY SERVICE CORPS, NO 1 COMPANY. DIED ON 28/03/1917, AGED 25. BURIED IN HULL. HIS CWGC ADDRESS IS RECORDED AS 67 HAMPSHIRE STREET, HULL.
