Lee, Richard Arthur

BORN HULL 1888. ELDEST SON OF THE LATE, CAPTAIN, RICHARD LEE & MARIA TONG, OF 24 DERRINGHAM STREET, HULL. HE WAS IN CHINA WHEN WAR BEGAN AND HE RETURNED TO ENGLAND TO ENLIST. SERVED AS A SERGEANT IN THE ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. DRAFTED TO EGYPT AND THEN POSTED TO FRANCE. HE WAS WOUNDED IN JULY, 1916. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 26/09/1917, AGED 29. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE YPRES MENIN GATE MEMORIAL, BELGIUM.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 08/10/1917. *

ONE OF FOUR BROTHERS WHO SERVED IN THE WAR – AIR MECHANIC, HARRY LEE, ROYAL FLYING CORPS, SAPPER, FRED LEE, ROYAL ENGINEERS, IN MESOPOTANIA, AND ERNEST LEE, REJECTED IN 1915, BUT NOW SERVING.
