BORN WELWICK 1894. SON OF HENRY LEVITT (1843-1929) & BETSY GEDNEY (1849-1932), OF BURSTWICK AT 59 LEE STREET, HULL. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND NINE SISTERS, SOME OF WHICH DIED IN INFANCY. A FORMER SOLDIER. HE WORKED AS A MILL HAND, LIVING AT 3 NORMAMBY, ST PAUL STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 59 LEE STREET, HULL

HE ENLISTED BEVERLEY. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 25/09/1914. SERVED WITH THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 29/10/1914, AGED 20, AT NO: 8 FIELD HOSPITAL, ERQUINGHEM.

HE WAS ONE OF THREE BROTHERS LOST IN THE WAR.

HIS OLDER BROTHER, GUNNER, WILLIAM LEVITT, ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 21/03/1918, AGED 27 YRS.

HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, ALFRED LEVITT, 2ND YORK & LANCS, DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 15/01/1918, AGED 24 YRS. THE BROTHERS WERE PHOTOGRAPHED IN THE HULL TIMES, ON THE 05/12/1914.

ANOTHER BROTHER, HAROLD HEATON LEVITT, HAD BEEN KILLED AT THE STOREY SMITHSON COMPANY, IN OCTOBER 1913, AGED 16. HIS SITER SARAH LEVITT (1871-1916) ALSO DIED IN 1916 AGED 45. SHE HAD MARRIED, FRED ESCREET WALKER, HAD NINE CHILDREN. TWO OF HER SONS WERE TO ALSO DIE IN THE WAR. PRIVATE, GEORGE WALKER, 21941, 8TH EYR, KILLED AT OPPY WOOD, ON 03/05/1917, AGED 21  AND PRIVATE, FRED WALKER, 93069, DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY, WHO DIED OF GAS WOUNDS, ON 14/10/1919, AGED 21 AND IS BURIED IN FAMILY GRAVE AT ALL SAINTS CHURCHYARD, BURSTWICK.
