Pte, Charles Manson, 6th West Yorkshire Regiment

Born Hull 1893. Second Son of Franklin Mason (1853-1917) and Jane Spink (1857-1945), of Cottingham, Hull; husband of May Gray (formerly Manson), of 24 Bridge Street, Berwick on Tweed and “The Cedars,” Marr St., Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia.

An apprentice seaman. Employed by Mr Ramsay, Boat Builder, of Windhill, Shipley Yorkshire, for five years. He enlisted at Bradford, in September 1914. Served as Private, 240748, 6th West Yorkshire Regiment. Killed in action, on 09/09/1917, aged 24. He is buried in Belgium. His grave inscription reads, “TO-DAY BRINGS BACK SAD MEMORIES OF A LOVED ONE GONE TO REST”

His death was reported in the Hull Daily Mail, on 01/01/1917. *
