BORN HULL 29/12/1894. SON OF JOHN THOMAS MAPPLEBECK (1850-1908) AND EMILY JAQUES (1854-1901). SON OF A DOCK LABOURER. HE HAD FIVE BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS. HIS SISTER MARGARET LATUS (1879-1964), LIVED AT 7, CLIFTON TERRACE, ADELAIDE STREET, HULL (CWGC NAVAL RECORDS ADDRESS).

HE SERVED IN THE ROYAL NAVAL RESERVE. LOST AT SEA OFF THE STRAITS OF GIBRALTA BY ENEMY SUBMARINE, AGED 22. HE LEFT £113 IN HIS WILL TO HARRY CHAPMAN, SOLICITORS CLERK. HIS PROBATE ADDRESS WAS 7 CLIFTON TERRACE, DAY STREET, HULL. HIS NAME IS LISTED AT THE CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL, KENT, UK.

SS Forestmoor, built by J. Blumer & Co., Sunderland in 1910 and owned at the time of her loss by Moor Line, Ltd. (W. Runciman & Co.), London, was a British steamer of 2844 tons.
On October 5th, 1917, Forestmoor, on a voyage from Huelva to Dublin with a cargo of copper ore, was sunk by the German submarine UB-51 (Ernst Krafft), 54 miles WxN3/4N Cape Spartel. 22 persons were lost.
