Born Harwich, Essex, 1891. Son of Charles and Isabella, of 2, Brighton Terrace, Hall Street, Hull (War Pension address)

A Professional Soldier. Described as 5 foot, 7.5 inches tall, 130 lbs weight, 34-37 inch chest, blue eyes, dark brown hair, sober, honest reliable.

He enlisted at Harwich, Essex on 12/12/1907. Changed Regiments to be with his younger brother. Served with the Lincolnshire Regiment, Royal Garrison Artillery and 1st Border Regiment in Singapore. Posted to the Middle East and France. he was acting Company Sergeant Major when he was killed in action, on 01/07/1916, aged 25. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.

His army effects were shared between his mother Isabella Ramsey, who moved to Canada, his brothers, Alfred, Claud, Frank and Wilfred and sisters, Minnie & Olive.
