BORN HULL 1893. SON OF  JOSEPH MOWATT (1852-1917) & ANNIE ELIZABETH COATES (1855-1917), OF 5 BOHEMIA TERRACE, FINSBURY STREET, HULL. HE HAD ONE BROTHER AND FOUR SISTERS. EMPLOYED AS A CLERK FOR A PAINT MANUFACTURER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 17/04/1915. SERVED WITH 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT.  KILLED IN ACTION, ON 21/07/1916, AGED 23.

UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS PARENTS, WHO BOTH DIED IN 1917, AND THEN PASSED TO HIS SISTER HILDA.

HE IS BURIED AT LA LAITERIE MILITARY CEMETERY, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “FATHER IN THY GRACIOUS KEEPING LEAVE WE NOW THY SERVANT SLEEPING”.
