HE ALSO SERVED IN THE TERRITORIALS FOR 4 YEARS. HE EMIGRATED TO AUSTRALIA AND WORKED AS A FARMER. HE ENLISTED ON 28/09/1914, AT BLACKBOY HILL, WESTERN AUSTRALIA, GIVING THE AGE OF 27. DESCRIBED AS JUST OVER 5 FOOT 6 INCHES TALL, 138 LBS WEIGHT, 35 INCH CHEST, DARK COMPLEXION, BROWN EYES, BROWN HAIRE AND METHODIST RELIGION. HE WAS CONSIDERED FIT SUBJECT TO GETTING A SET OF UPPER FALSE TEETH. HE SERVED AS PRIVATE, 660, IN THE 16TH AUSTRALIAN IMPERIAL FORCE. LEFT MELBOURNE FOR THE DARDENELLES, ON THE SS ‘CERAMIC’, ON 22/12/1914. HE ARRIVED AT GALLIPOLI, ON 12/04/1915. KILLED DURING A CHARGE, ON ‘DEAD MANS RIDGE’, ON 02/05/1915, AGED 37. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE ‘LONE PINE’ MEMORIAL. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER AGNES, THEY INCLUDED A TOBACCO POUCH, LETTER, PEN AND PENCIL, WRIST WATCH, HAIRBRUSH, 2 SHAVING BRUSHES, AND A PIECE OF SHELL.
